RCNA Nursing Summit, 26-28 May 2010
Minds converging to inspire, progress and promote the profession of nursing
Latest news: RCNA Nursing Accord 2010
The 2010 RCNA Nursing Summit was a great success providing a timely opportunity for Australia’s nursing profession to convene and share ideas and energy relating to the long-term challenges confronting our nursing and health workforces. The presence and contribution of many members impacted significantly on the positive outcome of this important event.
RCNA looks forward to advancing the key outcome of the Summit, the Nursing Accord 2010. To access a copy of the Accord please click here.
The Nursing Accord 2010 presents a collective call from Summit delegates for greater investment to build capacity within the nursing workforce in relation to leadership, governance, mentoring and the next generation of nurses. It highlights issues that are of central concern to the future of the profession as well as to the success of the Australian Government’s health reform agenda. Of particular importance at this time is the call for a National Nursing and Midwifery Workforce Strategy to provide a framework to strengthen the development of a flexible and sustainable nursing and midwifery workforce that is educationally prepared to continue to meet the health care needs of the population.
In May 2010, RCNA President Dr Stephanie Fox-Young FRCNA convened a Nursing Summit held in Canberra, bringing together a collection of the most dynamic and visionary nurses in the country representing diverse groups from within the nursing profession.
The aim ws to tackle some of the long term challenges confronting Australia’s nursing and health future – challenges which require long-term, big picture responses from the nurses of Australia. To thrive and prosper in the future we drew on the range of talents, ideas and energy from across the Australian nursing community, and this Summit facilitated that opportunity.
Summit participants were encouraged to debate and develop thinking for nursing across a number of critical areas.
The Summit had the following objectives:
- To provide a forum for free and open debate in which there are no predetermined right or wrong answers
- To harness the best ideas from across the nation
- To apply those ideas to the core challenges facing the nursing profession
- To inform future goals and strategies to support the progression and promotion of nursing in Australia.
RCNA sees the 2010 Nursing Summit as setting the stage for the invention of nursing's future…
