RCNA Lobbying Update
RCNA is actively lobbying the recently elected independent, Nationals and Greens members of federal parliament to ensure fundamental health reform is a key consideration in their negotiations with Labor and the Coalition.

RCNA’s key messages to these members focus around the need to:
  • develop a national nursing and midwifery workforce strategy
  • undertake a national rural nursing and midwifery work environments and lifestyles assessment
  • take a system-wide health care approach to reform
  • implement a patient-centred, health promotion and preventative approach to health care that capitalises on the central role of nursing across the health system
  • make better use of the skills of all health professionals and reduce dependence on general practice
  • maximise the expertise of the nursing profession, which, as the predominant health profession across the health sector, is currently significantly underutilised
  • enhance and expand community and primary health care roles of nurse that sit outside of general practice.

Nursing Scholarships open for applications
RCNA are pleased to announce that the Nursing and Allied Health Scholarship and Support Scheme (NAHSSS) funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing is now open, with applications closing on 1 October 2010.
